I remember reading that there was an Abarca who was a Govenor of the State of Guerrero in the 1950's or 60's.
My Grandfather was Pascual Abarca of Zacapu, Michoacan. I know very little about him but I was told that he became a General in the Mexican Army in the 1950's.
There is also some question as to whether Abarca is a Spanish or Basque name. The suppossed first Abarca was Sancho Garces Abarca. He was a Basque King of Navarra. In Basque, he is known as Sanxto Abarka.
