It is generally agreed that the first Abarca was Sancho Garces Abarca, a Navarese King. His capitol was in Pamplona. He is usually considered to be a Spaniard. The Aragonese also consider him to be a King of Aragon.
What is also of interest is that the Basques claim Sancho Garces Abarca as one of their own. In Basque he is known as Sanxto Abarka.
