I have been trying to trace down my grandpa's mother. He was given away at birth or not long after and he was named Thomas Eckerson and last name was Burleson ONLY because he was given to a Burleson to take in and care for him.He was born in 1913 The more a research the more I think that his mother gave him the name Thomas Eckerson so that he could know where he came from one day but he was not ever able to read and write because Buzz Burleson never let him attend school and he was just used as a farm hand and wasnt treated well. I do know that his mothers name was Elizabeth and that at one point she either took the Brown sir name of married one. She was a cook that went around to the sharecrops and I was told she probably gave more then one child away. She did keep grandpa's sister Rosie for some time (not sure how long). She was born about 1901. And I think she had another brother by the name of Robert. My aunt Rosie was from Alabama and so was my grandpa. Rosie was given the Brown name as a maiden name but I think she married a ? Martin. My grandpa went by the first name of Eck and all his military papers and such show him as such because he couldnt read or write and gave Eck for a name since it would be easy for him to learn to sign.

So I am thinking Elizabeth gave him the name Thomas Eckerson either after her father and possible who his dad was that she might have been married to.
Please if anyone can be of any help???
