William Ackles’ Will - signed 6 June 1844
In the name of God amen. Be it remembered that I William Ackles of Highland County, Ohio considering the uncertainty of this mortal life being in body but being sound in mind and of perfect memory Blessed to Almighty God for the same do make and publish this my last Will and testament in manner and from following that is to say
First That after my decease that my body be decently buried
2d That my funeral expenses and just debts be paid out of my moveable property.
3rd I will that my third son William have one hundred and twenty five dollars out of my estate as soon as may be convenient after my decease.
4th My Will is that my beloved wife have all the residue of moveable property together with my farm and all the rents and profits arising from the same or in anywise appertaining thereunto to have and to hold free from all incumbrances during her natural lifetime Excepting the lease Isaac Reedy now hold on said farm for six years term which said lease specifies the rent said Reedy is bound to pay per year to farm which said rent she is to have as pertaining to said farm.
5th My Will is that my youngest son Robert after the decease of my beloved wife have all my real estate to have and to hold forever by his giving one good new saddle to each of my three daughters to wit Sarah Wife of John Dunham. 2d Elizabeth wife of Samuel Dunham. 3rd and Mary wife of Isaac Reedy and if the said Robert should die without issue then at the death of my wife the farm and all of my goods and chattels if any there remain to be sold and the to be equally divided amongst the rest of my children and my stepson John Cole.
6th My Will is that after the decease of my wife and her funeral expense all paid then all the remainder of my moveable property if any there are be sold and the price of the same be equally divided among my children as follows to wit – Sarah wife of John Dunham, Elizabeth wife of Samuel Dunham also my sons and step John Coles, James Ackles, Phillip Ackles, William Ackles and my daughter Mary wife of Isaac Reedy.
7th My Will is that whereas I together with Isaac Reedy gave our obligation to Samuel Bell for the payment of a certain sum of money that as much of said money be paid out of the rents arising from my farm as can be made each and every year until said sum of money be fully paid and said Reedy have sufficient time to pay it back again to my wife without interest and the deed be made to said Reedy for the land said money is in payment in.
8th Lastly my will is my very trusty friend John Ruble settle this my last will and testament.
