DNA findings with Eckard
As the administrator and co-administrators of the Acord/Eckert DNA Project, we'd like to provide you with an update regarding the results obtained by the Acord DNA Research Group:
We have test results from a documented descendant of John Acord through his son Robert "Cuddy" that is a marker for marker match with a descendant of Peter Eckert from Lebanon County Pa (b: circa 1780) and another match (with only one marker off) with a descendant of Johann Casper Eckard (b bef:1722 - d:after 1780) of Berks/Lancaster Cos. Pa. This is very exciting as we have finally found a connection to the original surname of Eckert/Eckard.
In trying to rule in or out various Acord/Eckert families, we now have definite DNA results that prove the descendents of John and Rachel Acord's do not match with Cornelius Acord from Arkansas, nor alleged descendents of Michael Acord in Ohio and Francis Eckert in Augusta County, Virginia.
If you want information regarding Johann Casper Eckard, please contact Ron Echard at([email protected] ).He has written a well documented book,"Eckard's: from the Rhine to Limerock."which can be purchased directly through him should you be interested.
We need documented gents who have retained the Acord surname from John "Old Jack" Acord and another son(s) of John and Rachel Acord to do the DNA study. We'd like to put to rest whether there was an Indian connection and will need a descendant within 5 or 6 generations back to do this test. Also, we'd like to find descendents from John and Rachel's daughters, Sarah and Mahala, to do the Family Finder Test at Family Tree DNA.
In addition, it would be helpful if a descendant of Conrad Eckert, son of Johann and Angelica Hicks Eckert, (who we know is not the father of our John Acord, but may be an uncle or cousin) would also do a Y- DNA test.
We have many Eckert gents who have done the DNA study whose results do not match the John Acord descendants, but may have matches with other different Eckert/Echard families.
If you have hit a brick wall and do not know the Eckert/Echard family you connect to please consider doing a DNA test.
We will assist you in getting registered with Family Tree DNA for a 37 to 67 marker test and will attempt to help you with research.
We are going to try to plan a research trip(s) to the Shenandoah Valley and Pennsylvania perhaps this summer or early fall.We need feedback from you whether it is of interest to you and if you can possibly join us.Please send us dates that you would be available.
Please contact us any time with any questions you may have. Thank you and we look forward to hearing from you.
