Sarah Susan (Ader) Akers
Sarah Susan Ader Akers was born September 28, 1823, in Davis County, Pennsylvania. When six years old, she moved to Putnam County, Indiana. Was married to W. C. Akers, August 1, 1839. To this union were born twelve children, ten sons and two daughters. Seven of these preceded her to the grave; the five remaining to mourn her loss are: M.A. Benton (not present), of Iowa, B.L. Akers, A.M. Akers, G.M. Akers and Leona Holmes. She emigrated to Mercer County, Missouri, lived there seven years then moved to Decatur County, Iowa, in 1852, united with the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in 1849 and in 1854 joined the Missionary Baptist Church in which she lived faithfully until death.
Deceased moved to Oregon in 1885 and has lived there continously since, with her son, B.L. Akers. The funeral sermon was preached by Reverend J.L. Swift.
