Montgomery/Adkins from Magoffin County
Hi,,,
I'm new to the list, but hope that I can find some help here.
My maternal grandmother is Gladys Adkins (married names were Zimmerman and Long). She was born around 1910 in Magoffin County, Kentucky. Her parent's names were Edward and Nan, Nance, or Nancy (Montgomery ?) Adkins.Their other children were named Charles, Clyde, Kearney, and a daughter named Tealy, or Tinie, or something to that affect. There may have also been another daughter who died during birth, or had died giving birth.Story goes that Tealy was shot and killed at the age of 6 after stepping off her school bus, by her brother Kearney, who was cleaning his rifle.
The family tells that my ggparents, Edward and Nancy were Indian, possibly Cherokee, but this is unclear.I think that maybe only Nancy was indian, but supposedly full blooded.I am very interested to learn more about the Mulengeon connection, or any information that you may have regarding the Adkins of eastern Kentucky.I am from the northeast, and am unfamiliar with the Magoffin County area of Kentucky, so I don't know what specific area they were from.I do know that Salyersville is the county seat, with one township being called Licking River?
I hope that you can help me, or direct me to where I can find some information.I am just beginning my quest, but am having a roadblock here..
