Sally~
Thanks again, for your invaluable information! It is ironic that your g-g-grandfather, Stephen, lived but a couple miles from my g-g-g-grandfather, Josiah.Deerfield is just a short distance from York Township in Dane County.I thought for sure they were closely related. It does help to know that Sylvanus had a Josiah, also.Sylvanus (son of Elijah) was Josiah's older brother.Sylvanus very easily could have named his son after his closest brother. Also, the fact that Stephen Adsit, son of Ebenezer, was born in 1776, fits perfectly with my story.Stephen's older brother was Elijah, father of Josiah. That makes Stephen Josiah's uncle as you surmised. Finally, in looking through census reports from Ancestry.com, I was able to locate a Sylvanus Adsit in the 1860 census. He lived in Redfield, Oswego County, NY.That is where my Brooks ancestors lived!Frances Adsit (Josiah, Elijah, Ebenezer, John II, John??) married Gilbert Brooks from Redfield.I think that the Josiah born 9 Dec 1797 must be my g-g-g-grandfather.Thanks to you, I'm well on my was toward finding out. Thanks a million!Jan
