Hi Simon,
Good luck with trying to find family members. You may want to try the following newspapers, EL COMERCIO in Quito and EL UNIVERSO in Guayaquil. I know they are both national newspapers. I do not live in Ecuador, I live in New York, I grew up here and haven't been back to Ecuador in over 20 years. Have you ever been to Ecuador? I have heard of Macas but I'm not entirely sure where it is.
