I am researching this branch of the Ahlgrim tree for a close friend. These Ahlgrims immigrated from Germany and settled in IL/IN, with a few eventually moving to Southern California. The direct linkage is as follows: Christian AHLGRIM & Helminna FLECK Max John AHLGRIM & Ida Bell PARKS Fred McKinley AHLGRIM & Vera F. CHAPMAN Jack C. AHLGRIM & (1) Mary Rohat (2) Kathryn R. WAGNER Jack is my friend's maternal grandfather through a second marriage. He is quite fond of his grandfather and would really like to record as much information as possible while he can still ask Jack the odd question here and there. I've not met Jack, but like many of our oldest remaining generations, he is reluctant to converse at length about family history. In my own family I've found the best method to be gathering information and then asking 'yes' or 'no' type questions. Usually a bit conversation occurs, helping add context to the research. My research is not limited to the direct line, I prefer to record as much information as I can find on the entire family of each generation, maternal & paternal. I would happily share information with the caveat that I must protect the privacy of those individuals whom I know to be living. I am very concerned about data being added to Internet trees without asking permission, hence my caution. I am also most interested in photos. Not being an Ahlgrim myself, I do not have any - but I can share any that I find or am given (with permission of course). For instance, today I found a web site that had the flier advertising the Ahlgrim Park Resort (c.1905-1906) on the Kankekee River in IL. If you google 'Water Valley' I think you'll find the site without any difficulty. I look forward to hearing from you Ahlgrim descendants - thank you in advance for sharing your family history.
