Hi Sheryl,

My great-grandfather was a Henry Ahlswede who came from Kaierde, Germany in 1867 and lived in Oshkosh, WI (maybe also in Manitowoc, I don't know). He had a grandson named Donald who lived in Rockford, IL and later Racine, WI.

My father (Loren "Lee", 1915-1992, son of Erich, 1883-1961) did some genealogical research in Germany and met a family of Ahlswedes who had lived on a farm near Kaierde since 1563 and who believe (I'm inclined to believe too) that all Ahlswedes are descended from their 16th century ancestor Johann. In the 1980s the farm passed to a daughter. I have some additional info that Dad and my uncles collected about both Kaierde and Wisconsin Ahlswedes but I'll have to do some digging -- I'll be glad to.
