Fred H. Ahrens of Huntley Funeral services for Fred H. Ahrens, 92, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 11008 N. Church St., Huntley, with the Rev. Charles W. Kittel officiating. Burial will be in Huntley Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, at the James A. O'Connor Funeral Home, 11603 E. Main St., Huntley, and from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services Saturday, at the church. Born Sept. 15, 1914, on the family farm in Huntley, the son of Fred and Caroline (nee Boettcher) Ahrens, he passed away Monday, Aug. 20, 2007, at his home. Fred was a 1932 graduate of Huntley High School and married Florence M. Schmid on Nov. 28, 1935, in Huntley. They were residents of the Woodstock area for 17 years before moving to Huntley in 1952. Mr. Ahrens was a lifelong farmer. He was also active in his community as a former trustee on the Huntley Village Board, as a past president of the Huntley Senior Citizens, a former school board member when the new school was built on Lincoln Street, a director of the McHenry County Historical Society, and a director of the State Bank of Huntley. He was also a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Huntley and formerly for many years of the Grace Lutheran Church in Woodstock. Fred was a people person, one who enjoyed the many relationships he made wearing one of these many hats. Surviving are his cherished children, Janet (Jim) Hulke of Huntley, Larry (Judy) Ahrens of Sharon, Wis., Carolyn (Jim) Jones of Union and LeRoy (Phyllis) Ahrens of Barrington; grandchildren, Wade (Sarah) Hulke, Stacy (Rob) Miskewitch, Alison Ahrens, Kristine (Scott) Schumacher, David (Laura) Ahrens, Donna (Jed) Wing, Lonna (Brett) Roesslein, Joann (Steve) Reynolds, Russell Ahrens and Leigh Ann (Chris) Porsch; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Florence on Aug. 1, 1999; grandchildren, Janis Halat and J.R. Hulke; sisters, Lillian Williams, Esther Koppen and Rose Ahrens; and brothers, Harry, John and Frank Ahrens.
