Morgan County, OH, Probate Court, Marriage Records, 1819-1923, Marriage Records, v A-C 1819-1860, LDS Film #910657, pg 95, 1 Feb 1826:

"397 Israel Aikins and Eliza Oliver
The State of Ohio, Morgan County
I hereby certify that on the 6th day of November last I joined together in the holy state of matrimony Israel Aikins and Eliza Oliver. Given under my hand and seal this 1st of Feby. 1826 John White JP {seal}."

1 Feb 1826 is sometimes seen given as the date of marriage, but it actually was a couple months earlier. These court records have a lot of marriage records recorded some months belatedly.

I do not know where "Sophia" comes from (other than New York), and I have not yet found a death/burial for Eliza, nor a marriage for Sophia - they may even be the same person - but I do feel it is the same Israel. Can't 'prove' it just yet, but the politics and geography seem to hold true.

The question may be which Ichabod is Israel's child, but my money is on the one that didn't go back across the river to Jackson County, who, incidently, also has more than one wife reported.

See also my 'Allard, Oliver, & Aikins' post (or whatever it's exact title is) - I think there is one on this Forum.

Cheers!

Bill Strickland
