Jeff -- Thank you so much for this information! The Sophia matter isn't entirely cleared up yet, though -- there have been some LDS submissions that I am currently trying to follow up on concerning a second marriage for Israel Aikins to a Sopiah Baits about Jan 1928 possibly near Cincinnati, OH, from a descendant of this Baits line. I still have lots of questions on Israel's line, and not enough answers, yet. Like how about the three Aikins girls in Bond County, IL in the 1860 Census -- Rebecca, 22, and Sophia, 26, in nearly adjacent Smith households in Geenville and Sarah, 18, several census pages away in the Phelps household -- are they perhaps Israel's? Ichabod married in Bond County in 1853, and he and a sister Sophia were with the family in the adjacent Fayette County in 1850 ... Yes, there are a lot of Aikins (& variations) in Illinois before the war that I can not identify, but the ones I want to know about are probably in the mix with various odd spellings -- like where is Ichabod in 1860? Et cetera. Ah, but Sopiah -- one step at a time, or as my dad would say, "You have to catch the ball before you can run it in for a touchdown." Maybe one of these days I'd be interested in copies of those Civil War records, but right now, it's time to 'mow the grass' and other seasonal activities. :) Thanks, Bill Notify Administrator about this message?
