HICKS, FRANCIS>CANADA>Yukon or Alaska>Ship sank

Francis Hicks, Born March 09, 1858, County Caven, Ireland went to Alaska or Yukon in search of gold 1897 - 1904. His date of death is marked as May 16, 1904. His brothers George Richard and Alexander McLaughlin Hicks were in the Yukon/Alaska with him and returned to Canada approximately 1902 - 1904 and Francis remained to tend to gold mine and was to return separately. supposedly his ship sank, but the family had May 16, 1904 as his date of death, do not know what ship he was on and cannot seem to find the right place to look up this data. Would appreciate any help that anyone can give me.
