Hi,

MY grandparents were there during WWII, my grandpa was in charge of the Territorial Guard in Hooper Bay during the war. His name was Charles (Carlie) Jacobsson.

There was a manuscript written by a woman name Christine McCLain on my grandmother (Mildred Jaccobsson Durgan), and her experience as a Native teacher at Hooper Bay, but it was never published. There are several versions of this work included in the McClain collection at the UAA archives.

The manuscript mention WWII, but no japnese contact, only a false report (whom they thought were Japanese)but turned out to be a lost US boat. There was also a report of a Big Mine washing up on shore...
