I am searching for any & all info inre William Joseph Sheehan... This is what I do know:

William Joseph Sheehan Sr
b.1844 possibly May in Liverpool England
d. 193? after 1930 in Sitka Alaska as he is listed in the 1930 census as an inmate, no record of his death has been found yet

He married a Soffia Vereskin or Bereskin, in either Morzhovoi, Belkofsky, or Unalaska, no record of that either, but they had thier first child in 1889 so hopefully before then.

By the 1900 & 1910 census he is listed as a widower, & by then all 3 of his kids have been shipped off to Indian Boarding Schools, the 2 sons William Jr & Joseph Samuel are sent to Carlisle Pennsylvania around 1899 no record has ever been found about William so it is believed he died at the school, Joseph on the other hand made it out, got married had children who had children etc... I am in contact now with that branch of the family, his daughter Louise was sent to Chemawa Oregon boarding school in about 1910 & got out by 1916 she married a Peter Normandy in Havre Montana about 1918. I descend from her.

I have recieved info that says that Soffia Bereskin was previously married to a Petre Dushkin & that she was born in 1841 not 1875, but an Alaska researcher is adamate about the fact that she was in fact born in 1875 so I can't prove this one way or the other

William was a Billiard Maker & is listed in Polks directory
Ive also recieved info that says that William was from New Brunswick St Stephens parish, removed to Ontario to work on the railroad, ended up in California & then headed up to Alaska & that he, his mother, 2 brothers & one sister immigrated from Liverpool (which is what all his census forms say) As yet this is unverified but if it is true, which I believe it is then his mother is Margaret Sheehan b. 1816 or 1821 in Ireland, later married & moved to Liverpool England, d.11/25/1907 buried in the Milltown Catholic Cemetery in St Stephens Parish New Brunswick. So if I'm on the right trail I would like any info about the New Brunswick Sheehans, but there are alot of them in the area before 1866 when I believe that Margaret arrived there. England "kicked" her out as an indigent widow & orphans, way to go England!!!! But my understanding is that at that time it was illegal for any poor or indigent person to come to Canda for any reason which is what makes me think that she must've had family there to be able to go & those Sheehans are from County Cork Ireland which is where it states on Louise's school records as her fathers "Place of Origin" I always thought all Irish names started out with an O' so I'm not understanding why it's Sheehan not O'Sheehan. Any idea's help or info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for reading brandia11@yahoo.com Brandia
