DILLBECK/AKINS This does not concern my family, but I thought the information would be useful to someone. Genealogical information written on the opening blank page of an old herbal medicine book. Horton Howard. An Improved System of Botanic Medicine. In Three Volumes. Third edition, revised and corrected. Columbus, Ohio: Published by the Proprietors, 1836. Inside Cover and on the back of the last page, the following is written with an old, sepia ink: Dr. Freeman Dillbeck Blank page, front side: Nancy Ann Dillbeck Akins Died [from this point on in a different hand using a more modern ink pen, blue ink] Dec 7th 1950 Born May 28th 1870 Mother Mary Susan(?) Father Ned [note in a different hand underneath using a ballpoint pen: Med] Line George Akins Born Jan 7th 1868 Son of Sarah & Charles Akins Blank page, back side: Charles B. Akins & Sarah T. Stephens Married Dec. 13 A. D. 1860 Wm. A. Hanaberger Omillia (?) E Akins Married Sept 18 1876 Geo. C Akins & Nancy Ann Dilbeck Married Feb 21 1889 Frank Understahl and Annie Akins Married Oct. 29 1885 Archall R. Akins & Myrtle Davis Married Mar 1, 1915 Charles R. Akins & Edith Vogles Married Nov 1, 1919 [in a third hand or different pen, a ball point pen] Nova Akins & Loretta Zink Married Carl Akins & Alice Ballard Nov 7, 1945 Charles R & Jennie Lee Walker On the back of the last page, in a hand identical to the inside cover: Dr. Freeman Dillbeck Comments: Horton Howard, MD, followed the Thomsonian or physiomedical approach to herbal medicine which was popular c. 1825-c. 1900 The book was originally owned by Dr. Freeman Dillbeck, perhaps c. 1860. It then passed to his daughter (or neice?) Nancy Ann Dillbeck Akins (1870-1950). She married George Akins (b. 1868), son of Charles and Sarah (Stephens) Akins (married 1860). Then follow various marriage records of, apparently, the children of Charles and Sarah, then various marriage records of the children of George and Nancy Ann, then apparently a marriage from the next generation (Carl Akins and Alice Ballard). Not a descendent, but as the owner of the book, I would be interested to know if anyone knows these people? Matthew Wood Notify Administrator about this message?
