Dessie Mae Akins Land, 101, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2008, at a local nursing home. A native of Anniston, AL she had lived in the north Georgia area for the past 88 years. Mrs. Land was the oldest member of the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Ringgold. She was preceded in death by her husband Marvin Dewey Land; parents Joseph and Maggie Davis Akins; daughter Eva Joyce Land; son Clyde Land; three sisters; two brothers, and four grandchildren.
Internment at Anderson Cemetery. (Chattanooga Times Free Press)

J.B. (Joseph Bert) Aikin was born in 1875. His father was A.M. Akin (Archibald Murphy Akin) b. 9 Aug 1848 NC. His parents were Benjamin Wilson Aiken b. 19 May 1821 and Jane Rebecca Carter b. 5 Nov 1821 NC. Benjamin was the son of James Aiken 1762 and Martha Wilson 1778 both of Cumberland Co., VA

I would be happy to hear from other members of this line. Archibald had a sister Martha Henrietta Aiken 1846 NC who married a Mallett and a brother Benjamin Wilson Aiken Jr.

B.W. can be found in the 1850 census of Rockingham, NC Both BW and AM were lawyers. JB was a traveling photographer. He had two sisters, Sarah L. 1877 and Alpha 1872. They can be found in the 1880 census in Fairmount, Gordon, GA.
