My great-grandparents, William Monroe McGee/McGhee and Laura Alice McFetridge, both from Gibson Co IN, lived their later years in Foley, Baldwin Co AL. Both my great-grandparents died in Foley, Baldwin Co AL: William Monroe on Dec 29 1930, and Laura Alice about 1952. Looking for information on relatives from this area so I can trace the McGhees. Wm Monroe was babt 1864 to James W McGee (1841?-1867?) and Lucinda Smith (1846-1866). JW and Lucinda were married June 4 1863 in Franklin Co IL. They had two sons, Wm Monroe McGee/McGhee (he added the 'h') and James Marion McGee, both born before 1866. In 1866 this family (along with McGee's sisters Mary M and Martha J)travelled to AR to join up with McGee's family. Lucinda died in 1866, and JW is thought to have died 1867. The boys were raised until 1874 In Frankin Co IL by Lucinda's parents, Peter and Matilda (Montgomery) Smith (both from Posey Co IN > Franklin Co IL). After Matilda's death in 1874, the boys were raised by Lucinda's sister, Martha/Patsey (Mrs George W) Finch of Patoka, Gibson Co IN. William Monroe and Laura Alice were married near Patoka, Gibson co IN (near her mother's home) Aug 16 1893. They had two sons: Virgil Floyd McGhee (b Greencastle IN Apr 30 1897 - d Mar 8 1974 South Bend IN) and Cecil McGee (yes, different spelling). I don't know Cecli's dates, but he lived his later years in St Petersburg AL and died without issue). Virgil Floyd married Mary Muriel Thompson (b Carbon IN Aug 23 1896 - d St Petersburg FL Jan 18 1992). Virgil and Muriel (pronounced 'Murl')lived in South Bend, St Joseph IN and had two sons: William James (1917-1987, mar Lucille Andreano 1913-2002) and John P "Jack" (dates unknown, mar Jane). William Monroe worked as a pharmacist, and was probably active with the Masons. I know they had family in the Foley area -- one WWII letter mentions a 'Jerry' -- but I don't know any family names. There was also a cousin of Virgil's, Lloyd McGee, son James Marion, who was a dentist in CA. of (Both 'McGee' and 'McGhee' spellings are used in this family.) Hope someone recognizes this family!
