I was looking on the Anniston-Calhoun Public Library webpage for genealogy topics, when I scrolled down and saw a mention of a large number of vintage photographs that had been uploaded into the library's database. A well-known photography studio had provided the photos. The card catalog search page has a link to "digital photographs," and when you click that on, you can enter names or keywords.
I found several family photographs, and called the library to I.D. them. One was of my maternal grandmother, and my mother actually wept when I sent her a never-before-seen photo of her mom as an infant.
Most are marked "white infant" or "black female," with the names of the people who purchased the photos in the index, if that information was available. I found many photos by entering the surnames of the parents, and then narrowing the list down by adding initials.
Most of the photos I found that related to my family were from the 1920-1941 period. I noticed that you can purchase copies of the photos for $5.00 apiece.
