My great grandparents were William R. and Mary M. Hammond Davidson. As newly-married they moved to Chambers County, Alabama, as did other Hammond family members about 1860. Before moving to Chambers County, Alabama -- they lived in Troup County, GA.
In 1860 and 1880, Mary M. Hammond Davidson and William R. Davidson were listed in the Chambers County, Census with their children. I have never been able to locate them in a 1870 census.
I have recently found the name of Mary Hammond Davidson's ancestors. Her father was Simeon Hammond. Simeon was the eldest son of William Hammond. William was born in Greene Co. Georgia in 1817. Simeon moved with his family to the Long Cane area of Troup County, about 1835. William Hammond bought his first property there 8/1/1835.
About 1839, Simeon married Martha Ann(e) Sarah Traylor, daughter of George H. and Synthe (sp?) Traylor. Simeon died 9/20/1846 and his father, William Hammond, died 9/10/1846. (coincidence?)
The 1850 census of Troup County, Georgia shows George Traylor as 50 years old. It shows Synthe as 49 years old. They have the following children living with them. George (23), Mary (19), G -----(sp? 16 year old male) Synthe (16), John, (14), William (13) George R (11).
George and Synthe Traylor were, also, the parents of Martha Ann(e) Traylor. Martha was married to Simeon Hammond. In the 1850 census Martha Traylor Hammond was a widow and lived next door to her parents, George and Synthe Traylor. The census shows that Martha had four children. They were Mary M. (born 1840) Synthe E. (born about 1842), Sarah V. (born about 1844) and William T. Hammond (born about 1846).
Mary M. Hammond was my great grandmother. She was the wife of William R. Davidson of Troup County and, later, Chambers County, AL.
I am getting the above names from the 1850 census and the spelling of some of the Traylor names may be off. For example, I have seen Synthe spelled Sinthia. Please contact me, if you can give me the correct spelling or you are connected to this family.
I am researching the Hammond family and the Davidson family who lived in Chambers County, Alabama. Of course, I am also interested in the Traylor family.
