Recently, some wonderful old letters from the Greenberry Clay Barron family of Chambers County, AL, were made available to Barron researchers. With permission of the person who has preserved these letters, I've placed seven of those from the Civil War era online as a PDF file. Also included are several pictures and a brief history of the family.
The parents of Greenberry Barron, Thomas and Sally Clay Barron, were found in Greene County, GA, by 1805. Soon afterward, they resided in an area of Baldwin County, GA, that later became part of Morgan County. The family remained there until after 1820 and later may have lived for a time in Troup County, GA, before settling in Chambers County, AL, in the late 1830s. A number of Greenberry's siblings and their offspring moved to adjacent Tallapoosa County, AL, and are mentioned in the letters, providing researchers an invaluable reference -- as well as poignant insights into the close-knit family.
