G.H.Ash was born in 1840 in Cherokee Co., Al according to a Civil War medical discharge in Texas. The only Ash family I find in 1840 is Nancy Ash as head of household. I do not find her before or after that census. A General Land Office document issued at Lebanon shows that Nancy Petegrew (Late Nancy Ash) purchased 159 & 54 hundreths acres. I am assuming that a widowed Nancy Ash married a man named Petegrew, but can find no other records.
The description of land is:
the NW quarter of Section 26 in Twnshp 8 of Range 10 in the District of --?-- subject to sale at Lebanon, Alabama.
Can someone pinpoint the location of this land? If anybody has any knowledge of Nancy Ash and either husband I would appreciate hearing from you.
