George W (Washington? )Brewer

I have been looking for early history of Cherokee. My GGrandfather George W Brewer came from Cherokee county. He was born July 1846 according to the 1900 census.

The story I was told he and a cousin ran away from home, headed west, he stopped in the Mississippi delta and the cousin headed on west. That is one story.

A distant cousin told me she was told that his father did some blacksmith work (living in Cherokee county), whoever he did the work for was not satisfied and killed him. His mother was so distraught, she grieved herself to death.

That is about all I know. If born in 1846, he could have possibly served in Civil War but is doubtful. From 1846 to 1880 have not been able to find anything about him.

Hopefully someone can tell me where I could find information about early years of Cherokee county.

Thanks for any help.

Shelby
