FORMER SHERIFF OF CHOCTAW DIES AT HIS RESIDENCE
Cullomberg, Ala.--following a protracted illness of several months duration, Benjiman M. Locke, 73, prominent farmer and father of the present sheriff of Choctaw county, died in his family residence in the northern part of Washington county.
Mr. Locke was well and favorably known throughout the western part of the state, having served as sheriff of Choctaw county. He was a memner of the North Oak Grove Baptist church and grand master of the Healing Springs Masonic Lodge, an honor for which he held for thirty-two years. He was also a member of the Bladon Springs Chapter of Masons.
Funeral services were held at the Cullomburg Methodist church, Rev. Morgan Mason of Isney, a life long friend of the deceased conducting, assisted by the Revs. R.S. Lawrence of Chatom and B.W. Ware of Silas.
The masonic burial service was used and the pall bearers were selected among his lodge mates.
Surviving him are his widow, Mrs. Mattie(Rogers) Locke of Millry, Ala., two sons, Emmett R. Locke of Los Angeles, Cal. and Robert Locke of Butler, Ala., seven daughters, Mrs. Lloyd E. Howze of Waynesboro, Miss., Mrs. Tillman Hackmeyer of Mobile, Mrs. Jack Turnstall of Waco, Tex., Mrs. Alfred Lusk of Jacksonville, Ala., Miss Lucille Locke of Millry, Mrs. Florian Doggitt of Silas, Ala., Miss Helen Locke of Memphis,Tenn. and eight grandchildren.
Internment took place at Cullonberg with W.J. Patton in charge.
