I have not really pursued Nancy Williams Sandlin's ancestors, because of running into a dead end with John Williams, and like you, I have had other ancestor lines that I have been working on. Yes, it seems that there was extensive intermarriage among a small group of families in the area in the 1800's. If a person had the time to check surrounding census records for 1850, I feel pretty sure that one would find John Williams some where nearby Alfred Sandlin/family. The records could possibly be from Walker, Blount, and Winston (Hancock) counties. I also have heard that there are Williams and/or Williams descendants buried at Dorsey's Creek Cemetery on Hwy 69 near Bremen, but I haven't had a chance to check it out further. If you find out any more about John Williams, I would love to hear about it. If I should find something, I will make a note to contact you. Good luck with your research!
