CHEROKEE, Ala. - Norman Cortez Hubbard, 79, died Thursday, Jan. 22, 2009. He was a member and song leader at Cherokee Church of Christ. He was a teacher and coach for 37 years for the Cherokee School System and principal at other Colbert County schools. He was a member of the Colbert County Sports Hall of Fame. He enjoyed gardening.
Services were at the Cherokee Church of Christ. Burial was in Colbert Memorial Gardens. Colbert Memorial Chapel of the Shoals was in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors included his wife of 57 years, Jean Hubbard; two sons, Norman J. Hubbard (Brenda) of Iuka and Dr. James S. Hubbard of Rock Hill, S.C.; two brothers, Max Ray Hubbard of Southaven and Hoyt Hubbard (Pat) of Red Bay, Ala.; one sister, Dixie Mae Holcomb of Hamilton, Ala.; four grandchildren, Cassanna Montgomery, Christopher Hubbard, Jeremy Hubbard and Jennifer Hubbard; and three great-grandchildren.
