Gimilla Gertrude Barker, 97, died March 8, 2009, at the Care Center of Red Bay. She was born Nov. 4, 1911, in Ala. to the late Thomas Icy and Susie Barksdale Belcher. She was the owner and operator of Barker's Grocery Store in Atwood, Ala. for 45 years. She was a member of the Red Bay Free Will Baptist Church.
Services were at the Deaton Funeral Home Chapel in Red Bay with burial in the Holly Springs Cemetery. Deaton Funeral Home of Red Bay was in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors included two sons, Wayne Barker (Betty) of Red Bay and Dennis Barker (Diana) of Golden; five grandchildren, Kevin Barker, Brent Barker, Karen Bowen, Dale Holcomb and Christy Bennett; six great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph E. Barker; her daughter, Joyce Holcomb; her parents; four sisters; and two brothers.
