Ethel Peppers Humphres, 94, died April 6, 2009, at the Care Center of Red Bay. She was born Oct. 1, 1914, in St. Joseph, Tenn., to James Arthur and Matter Bell Rollins Peppers. She was a retired employee of Lance Garment and a member of Burnout Missionary Baptist Church.
Services were at Burnout Missionary Baptist Church with burial in Halltown Cemetery in Vina, Ala. Deaton Funeral Home of Red Bay was in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors included one daughter, Martha Jean Majors (Curtis) of Vina; one son, Terry Humphres of Cordova, Tenn.; two brothers, Marshall Peppers of Memphis and Clyde Peppers of Vilonia, Ark.; one sister, Elsie Pankey of Vilonia, Ark.; two granddaughters and three great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Rube Humphres; a son, Thomas Humphres; a daughter, Ruby Horton; a daughter-in-law, Patsy Humphres; and three brothers, Henry Peppers, Claude Peppers and Ethridge Peppers.
