Catherine,

Very interesting. My ancestor, Samuel Burton was born April 16, 1799 in Spartanburg, SC and died in Eutaw, Greene Co., Al in 1844. He would have been only 27 years old when this assignment was made if it was him. His father, David Burton was born abt 1774 and he had a brother Samuel Burton who supposedly died in Tennessee about 1816 so it is doubtful it is him but you know how these families are....there are probably Samuels I don't know about. The only thing, I don't know too much about my Samuel's (b 1799) wife. He name was Harriet Rush. Maybe the connection is through the Rush family...perhaps her father left some special detail in his will for Chambers and McCracken? I'm only speculating as I don't have a clue who she belongs to.

There is a McCracken connection to the Snoddy family in Greene Co. and the Snoddy family came from Spartanburg, too. This family married into several collateral lines of mine. That is the only connection to the McCracken family I know of in this area.

Please keep in touch.

Ann
