I don't have the records in front of me, but there are a number of Hales buried in the Sardis Methodist Church in West Greene, commuity now south of Pleasant Ridge. This area was considered part of Pleasant Ridge until after the War, and is represented as such on the Snedicor maps of 1856. So your folks might be there. The archivist of the Greene County cemeteries, the late Mrs. Mary Grantham Marshall, did not include Sardis in her census of Greene County Cemeteries, even though it was closest to her house than any other. I grew up in Pleasant Ridge and knew Mrs. Mary quite well.

I have some 1850, 1860, and 1870 Census returns copies and I'll look on those to see about your folks.
