I always thought that the Gambles of Henry CO were related but it appears that there are three separate lines that may not be related at all. To keep them straight, I refer to them by location and name:
1) The George Gamble line from Laurens CO SC came to Henry CO area before 1820. This line descends from George's father James Gamble and they are likely from Lancaster CO, PA before moving to SC.
2) The Andrew Gamble and his brother Hugh Thompson Gamble line from Jefferson CO, GA, arriving before 1830. Evidence suggests that their earliest ancestor was possibly Joseph Gamble who came from Ireland with his daughters who married Peel brothers and settled in Jefferson CO, GA.
3) New: The John Gamble Sr line from Lincoln CO, GA(my line). John and his family arrived between 1830 and 1840. I believe he is the John Gamble seen on the Walton CO GA 1830 census. It is spelled "John Grammell or John Gammell".
My fellow researcher Jeff Gamble's discovery of John Gamble Sr's original War of 1812 service record proved a few new facts. It also explains who these "stray Henry CO Gambles" were, including my line which has eluded researchers for years.
1) Ayers Gamble/Gamel served in the same military outfit and is also from Lincoln CO GA. Are they brothers? Possibly. Ayers ended up in Muscogee CO GA in his later years.
2) John Gamble Sr married Judith Avery/Avera of Lincoln CO GA and they ended up in Henry CO AL. They were likely missed on the 1850 census but there are more than a few families missing from that incomplete census, as we know. He's also missing from the other censuses and I do not know why. He died in 1879 in Henry CO and Judith must have predeceased him. He was also cared for in his later years by one of his Starling grandchildren and their Money in-laws.
John Gamble Sr and his wife Judith Avery had four known children born in GA who lived in Henry CO:
1) Thomas Gamble born abt 1815 m Lucinda Willis in 1837
2) Nancy Gamble born abt 1816 m William Starling in 1836
3) John Gamble Jr born abt 1822 m Tempy Deal in 1848 (died in WBTS - my line)
4) Jeremiah Gamble born abt 1825 m Matilda Woolf
