On 2 Nov 1845 Sophia L. Cunningham (1827-1908) married John Orrick Bristow (1818-1876) in Macon County, Alabama. John was from Bourbon County, Kentucky, and Sophia was born in Georgia. The couple remained somewhere in Alabama for at least ten years (5 of their 7 children were born in Alabama) before moving to Arkansas, then back to Kentucky by 1860, but I cannot find them in the 1850 census.
According to later census records Sophia's parents were from South Carolina. The 1850 census of Macon County shows no Cunninghams from South Carolina, but two couples from North Carolina (William R <1802?> & Caroline <1813?>; Margaret <1833?> & John <1834?>). Also a large family (Joseph <1805?> & Emaley <1810>) who had moved from Georgia about ten years before.
Sophia died 13 Nov 1908 in Independence, Kentucky. John, the son of Dr John Sandidge Bristow (1795-1820) and Louisa Metcalfe (1798-1842), had died 2 Oct 1876 in Bourbon County, probably from tuberculosis which ran in his family.
Seeking information on Sophia's parents and/or siblings. Any leads appreciated.
