Hello List I am trying to find anyone willing to copy and mail the 1870 Madison Co AL Mortality Schdule for me. I will pay for any charges incurred. I am looking for one Andrew J Mitchem/Mitchum He was murdered by one Peter Simmons in Madison co i do know that Peter's had siblings Thomspon C, George, James and Sarah. Their parents where William Simmons and Bersheba unk Peter and at least his brother Thompson moved from Franklin co TN to Madison co AL sometime bet 1860 and 1869 when Peter murdered Andrew. Peter had at least 3 wives Jane A Hurt who he married in Franklin co TN then he married his 2nd and 3rd wife in Madison 2) Martha A Donaldson 3)Sarah Elizabeth Kelly Hambrick (Her first husband was Thomas Calvin Hambrick) the court papers say Peter was charged with murder but the foregoing papers about the actual trial are missing from the court house records. After the death of Andrew his parents moved to Hardeman Co TN then on to MS then his father to TX. One of the authors of Alabama Records, Pauline Jones Gandrud, also wrote "Marriages, Death and Legal Notices from Early Alabama Newspapers 1819-1893". This has the following quote from the May 28, 1869 Livingston Journal (from Livingston, Sumter Co., AL): "Andrew J. Mitchem was killed by Peter Simmons in Madison County last Thursday week. Difficulty grew out of settling some business affairs." We are trying to verify if Andrew was on the 1870 Mortality Schedule His parents lived in nearby Jackson co AL at the time of his death Andrew was only 21 or 22 years old at the time of his death His burial place has never been found.
