John Wade Keyes Chapter, NSDAR will be hosting a Real Daughter Rededication for Mary Malissa Favor Reid-Christopher (1842-1917) on Sunday, Nov 16, 2 p.m. at Round Island Baptist Church Cemetery, 14790 Brownsferry Rd, Athens, AL. Mary Malissa was the daughter of Revolutionary War soldier John Favor (1763, VA – 1848, AL) and Mahala Lee who were married 28 Jul 1836 in Limestone Co, AL. Mary Faver married 1st Alfred P Reid in 1860, Limestone Co, AL and 2nd William R.Christopher in 1880, Limestone Co, AL.
John Favor, father of Mary Malissa, was one of the patriots who served with George R Clark’s Ill Regiment, VA troops. John Favor first enlisted Aug 1780 & continued serving as needed through Feb 1784. During this time he was residing in VA (Jefferson & Kentucky Co) He was b ca 1763 in VA & later removed with his 1st wife Henrietta & children John, Silas & Elizabeth to Lexington, KY; later to Limestone Co, AL. He died before 24 May 1847 and was married twice. John Faver donated 2 acres of his property in 1823 to what is now known as Round Island Baptist Church. His daughter, Mary Malissa, and her 3 children, Alfred and Albert Reid and daughter Susie Lee (Christopher) Gray are buried at Round Island Cemetery. John Faver is thought to have been buried nearby on his farm.
Descendants of John Faver and Mary Faver Reid Christopher will be honored guests.
