Joe W. McGowan, 72, Guin, died Nov. 1, 2008, at the Estes Northway Nursing Home in Birmingham. Born in Guin, he was the son of the late James Vester and Bertha Emmaline Hardin McGowan. He had lived in Guin all of his life. He retired from 3M in Guin. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and Air Force. He was a member of the Gu-Win Baptist Church.
Graveside services were Nov. 4, from the Guin City Cemetery.
Survivors included his wife - Margaret Anderson McGowan; sons - Daryl Wayne and Joe Wayburn McGowan, Jr., both of Guin; and brother - J.C. McGowan, Birmingham.
Norwood Funeral Homes, Inc. of Guin directed the services.
