Theodore Roosevelt "Ted" Cantrell, 86, died Feb. 9, 2009, at his home. He was born March 4, 1922, in Hackelburg, Ala., to Dan Henry and Myrta Yielding Cantrell. He married Mattie Sue McCrory in 1941. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific. He also was stationed in Germany, Japan, Saudi Arabia and many places in the United States. He retired as a Senior Master Sergeant and worked in Civil Service. He was a Baptist. He enjoyed woodworking and coin collecting.
Services were at the E.E. Pickle Funeral Home Chapel in Amory with burial in the Hatley Cemetery.
Survivors included his wife of 67 years, Mattie Sue Cantrell of Columbus; one brother, Jimmy D. Cantrell of Hamilton, Ala.; and four sisters, Sylvia Glenn of Hodges, Ala., Dorothy Morrison of Guin, Ala., Naomi Lee of Hackelburg, Ala., and Nadine Lolley of Crenshaw, Ga.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, William Ray Cantrell; six brothers, Daniel, Manuel, Herbert, W.H., Kenneth and Felix Cantrell; and one sister, Lillian Scarbrough.
