Alex Ray Meeks, 51, died April 16, 2009, in Monroe County. He was born Nov. 2, 1957, in Mississippi to Imogene Smith Gilliam and the late Frances Meeks. He lived in Wetumpka, Ala., Birmingham and Haleyville. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and throwing darts.
Graveside services were at the New Hope Cemetery with E.E. Pickle Funeral Home of Amory in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors included his mother, Imogene Gilliam of Hamilton; his fiancée, April Nelson of Haleyville; two sons, Alex Ray Meeks Jr. and Christopher Nelson; three brothers, Donald Ray Meeks and Robert Meeks, both of Huntsville, and Douglas Keel of Hamilton, Ala.; four sisters, Daphne Alred (Danny) of Amory, Mary Ann Buchanan of Huntsville, Frances Jean Altmon of Florida and Donna Bozsmen of Birmingham.
He was preceded in death by his father, Frances Meeks.
