David Dennis 3/28/07
I have that John Isham Stewart married Margaret "Mary" Dennis, daughter of Charles and Adeline Dennis. They were married in Brundidge, Pike County 10/27/1858.I was going to make a copy of the marriage certificate a couple of years ago, but the copy machine was out of order. When I returned to make a copy of Richard Madison Stewart's certificate, I forgot about J.I. Stewart.
John enlisted with his brothers, William, and Richard in the 46th Al Reg't Co. H.by J. W. McGuire on May 2, 1862 at Brundidge, Alabama. Mustered in at Loachapoka on May 15, 1862. Served extra duty as a butcher during May 1863. Captured at Vicksburg on July 4, 1863 and paroled six days later. Hospitalized at Ocmulgee Hospital, Macon, Georgia July 8, 1864 with "vul sclopit." (Gun shot wound through middle 1/3 both legs.) Furloughed July 11, 1864. Appears on a Receipt Roll for Clothing 4th Quarter 1864. Born July 17, 1837. Died 09 September, 1884 in Rose Hill, AL. Buried in the Carrs Chapel Cemetery, Pike County, Alabama. 48
I don't know of a connection with the two families prior to Charles Dennis moving to Pike County in 1855.
I have a copy of James Madison Stewart and Mary Ann Law's wedding certificate.I'll be happy to scan and send you a copy if you don't already have one.
There is also a monument in downtown Troy dedicated to the confederate soldiers of Pike county.I have a copy of the monument if you would like for me to send it to you as well.
