Thanks for the lookup. The marriage date for Martha Jane Garrett and Austin Simmons 27 Sep 1855 is my family.Still trying to find confirmation that she is the Martha listed on 1850 census as a daughter of John Garrett and Nancy Gilmour.Since she was oldest in this family and married at 18 in 1855, don't think any of the other Sarah, James, Nancy, or Jeremiah Garretts fit the right time frame, unless possibly Jeremiah M.
The answer about the Simmons M.D.s is puzzling. From "History of Parker County", p. 244-5: "Doctor (W.L.) Simmons used well his opportunities for education, and at the age of 22, entered Graefenberg Medical College, the first institution of its kind to be endowed by the State of Alabama. The following year, he graduated, and then engaged in the practice of medicine in his native county (Pike)."I assumed Austin S. Simmons might have followed his brother to the same school. All the information I have about Austin being an M.D. is from History of Texas, p. 256: "In the spring of 1872 Dr. Simmons discontinued practice and engaged fully in the livestock business."In 1860 Austin was "Keeper of Poor House" in Troy.Any information about that?
Both W. L. and Austin are buried as "Dr...." in City Cemetery, Weatherford, TX.
