Hello Jerrold,
For sometime now my friend and I have been searching for information about Amelio A.E. Alba PHD who was born in Manila in 1900 and died in Pendleton, Oregon USA 1975.

We are trying to secure a government headstone for him to mark his otherwise unmarked gravesite, but are running into problems while trying to get the necessary proof to do this since we were just friends and not related.

He told me that he was born one of 14 children to a very poor family in Manila. He was very well educated and did receive his PHD in Ethnology from Heidelberg University in about 1936. He later came to this country and when WW2 came along he served in the Army (I Think) as an officer and was wounded at Omaha Beach during the Normandy invasion.

He lectured at one of our state universities many times and he was one of the most intelligent people I ever knew. What a great teacher he must have been. He was also very spiritual and I assumed he was Catholic.

It saddened me when visiting his grave last year that there was not a stone to mark his grave and the temporary marker was buried so deep in the sod it had to be dug up and was barely readable.

His obituary stated there were no known relatives and so I am hoping that somehow we can find someone and maybe you are the very one.

From what I can learn about the name Alba...it seems to be mostly spanish but Amelio was definately Philippino.

Please let me hear from you and I will pray you may be able to help me with some information or at least can tell me who to contact in that country.
Sincerely,
Alcy Lamb
