I am trying to find information about my African American, Louisiana ALBERT family. I first found them on the 1880 census enumerated in Belle Chasse, Plaquemines Parish.
The family on the 1880 census were:
William - father/head
Hattie - mother/wife
William, Jr. - son
Thomas (my grandfather) - son
The census info states that they were all born in Louisiana, but I have not been able to learn where in Louisiana. All of the family members may not have been born in Belle Chasse.
Hattie's maiden name is YOUNG, and her family may have been from Lafourche Parish; although, I have not been able to find proof of that.
Hattie was a widow by 1900 (she died in 1901, her name is also spelled Hettie), and the family had moved to Algiers (a section of New Orleans, separated by the Mississippi river). There were other children: Elias, Priscilla, Agnes, Louella, and Rosetta.
My grandfather, Thomas ALBERT, married Lillie BILLY in 1901. He moved across the river to New Orleans circa 1910.
Elias died in 1907
Agnes married Adam LANDRY in 1905 (she died in 1946)
Priscilla may have married a JACKSON (she died in 1942)
Rosetta may have married a JACKSON (she died in 1929)
Please contact me if any of my family info is familiar to you. I have not been able to find my William ALBERT in 1870, and know nothing more about him other than the 1880 cenus info. He may have died between 1892 and 1900.
