about the origens of Alcantara

There is also a Spanish nobility title: the Marquis of Alcántara del Cuervo which belongs to someone of another family not bearing the Alcántara surname. My family comes from Seville (earliest birth certificate we have found c.1789), then to Sanlúcar de Barrameda, then to El Puerto de Santa Maria, then to Ferrol, Marin, and Madrid. Among known people with this surname are: Manuel Alcántara (poet), Theo Alcantara (orchestra conductor), Francisco Alcantara (writer), La Niña de los Peines (flamenco singer) and Jose Alcantara (naval architect and ex-mayor of Ferrol), my father.
