cantara

I just found out that I have Cantara in my background. It isn't AlCantara, but I can't help but wonder if there isn't an etymological connection.
The family came from France to Quebec in the 1600's. Does Cantara sound French? I don't think so, I always thought it sounded Spanish . I looked on the map where this family resided and it was in the southern part of France. ( Guyonne if I have it correct) Any thoughts are welcome.
