You Think?
When did your family first arrive in San Francisco?
Do you know what part of MEXICO they originated from?

I know my tio FELIX ALCANTAR settled in San Francisco, California between 1953 - 1954. (Apparently some time after your family). I'm aware of this time period via my mother who remembers that it was w/in a 3 year time period of her marriage in NOVEMBER 1951 to my father that tio FELIX ALCANTAR settled in San Francisco. He lived near the MISSION District until his death a few years ago. My FAMILIA ALCANTAR is from SANTIAGO, PAPASQUIARO, DURANGO, MEXICO. FELIX ALCANTAR & my GRANDMOTHER FRANCISCA ALCANTAR are two of the children of FRANCISCO ALCANTAR(A), FAVELA (Favela being his mother's maiden name). My FAMILIA ALCANTAR who are from the DURANGO area, originated from ALCANTARA SPAIN, which borders Portugal. 2 ALCANTARA brothers emigrated from SPAIN to MEXCIO, the brother who settled in the Northern Region of Mexico used the name of ALCANTARA (w/out variation) and the brother who settled in the SOUTHERN Region of MEXICO used the variation of ALCANTAR but also used his original name of ALCANTARA. And the family that he gave birth to continued to use both variations of the name interchangeabley. The ALCANTAR in the DURANGO area is on my grandmother FRANCISCA ALCANTAR family tree. Although most people know my grandmother as ALCANTAR, it is listed as ALCANTARA on my mother's USA birth certificate. My grandmother FRANCISCA ALCANTAR was married to my grandfather MAXIMILIANO LUNA for 64 years until his death. They had 14 children together, 11 of whom are still alive today. For a short time period, my grandparents, lived in the San Fernando Valley w/their first 4 children they had at the time. My mom MENA being one of them. My grandparents and their children returned to their residence in SANTIAGO, PAPASQUAIRO, DURANGO, MEXICO apprx in the year 1934. They went on to have 10 more children. Out of the 14, 11 of are still alive. Those children are known as LUNA ALCANTAR FAMILY in their native hometown in DURANGO. Both of my grandparents died in their home in PAPASQUAIRO DURANGO MEXICO. My grandmother FRANCISCA ALCANTAR died their w/in the last 4 years and my tio FELIX ALCANTAR died in San Francisoc w/in the last 3 years.
Maybe we are related. I would love to hear from you. Genealogy fascinates me. Please contact me at dcsalair@doc.co.santa-clara.ca.us
