Capt William Alexander and Capt John McKee are quoted by message 5522 on Montgomery Family GENFORUM as having companies that fought in the "Battle of the Mountains" against the Cherokee.
Major Thomas Alexander and Capt William McKee were brothers-in-law married to Neil Morrison daughters.
A Widow McKee is said to have married William CHRONICLE (sic) of King's Mountain fame. But no information is to be discovered about this Widow McKee. Actually, you can't even find anything about CHRONICLE.
Ambrose McKee refers to Richard Brown in his LW&T in 1779 as does William McKee, son-in-law of Neil Morrison, in his LW&T refer to his nephew Richard Brown as manager of his plantation.
General Rutherford orders the militia to rendezvous at MCKEE'S PLANTATION eighteen miles northeast of Charlotte.
Some of the earliest Anson and Rowan deeds record the proof of the McKee being there as early as 1752 but it is, so far, not possible to follow the thread of proving who was who just based on deeds etc. None of the later sales of the land or transfers of titles or disposition of assets are recorded. An example being Mary McKee who owned land in Mecklenburg right in there with Thomas Polk and all the "big wheels" on Sugaw Creek thru the end of the 1770's but then there is absolutely no further mention of her in any official records - she is just sucked into that deep dark hole and never heard from again in the official records.
My interest here is to discover the McKee Family journey to Hardeman County TN. Who did they (McKee) leave Mecklenburg Co NC with - did they only travel a few hundred miles and then spend some years in several different locations - did they venture south into GA and then up to Rutherford Co TN or did they go thru the "Lost State of Franklin" where oldest McKee son of Ambrose named Thomas was on the petition to form the State of Franklin - some early McKee were in Hardeman Co TN when Ezekiel Polk and his party were there - were they the McKee from Mecklenburg or were they McKee from, say Virginia. I am looking to prove where "they" were living from about 1785-1788 thru 1804 when Ambrose Macky signed the petition to form Wilson County TN. Did their property in NC get confiscated - were they some of the common people who fell thru the cracks during the war? There isn't much of a paper trail after the revolution.
So I thought if there is a story about this Dan McKee who moved to Hardeman Co TN and was a veteran of the Revollution then perhaps the McKee were also a part of that particular group.
