Winnie,

I am from a James Alexander who owned land on the Pacolet, and some of his sons owned land on Lawson's Fork.

We have heard of a John Alexander in those parts but I don't believe we have connected our line to him.

Our James Sr. bought land in 1753 in Anson or Roane Co. NC. For a time that same land was in Mecklenburg Co. NC when it came into being. When the NC/SC boundary was finally finalized after the Rev War, the land was in Spartanburg Co. SC.

We find our James Sr., James Jr., and Matthew Alexander there in the 1790 and 1800 census.

When I write "we" I am speaking of 7 of us DNA testers who had thought we were descendants of the 7 brothers of Cecil Co., MD fame. Test results indicate otherwise. So we are looking for the ancestry (at least the biological) of James Sr.

I will notify our group of your post and query and get back to you with responses.

The website you link to is very interesting to us but I cannot figure how to find our James. Any suggestions please?

Sincerely,

Roger Alexander
