ALGUIRE / ALGER Family connection?
I am posting this message on the ALGUIRE Family Forum as something of a longshot, but I am getting a bit desparate.
Henry Alger, my great-great-grandfather was born around London, England in 1829. He married Eliza Roberts in 1849 and migrated to Australia in 1853/4. They had 12 children. Henry died in Victoria, Australia in 1908.
While I have extensive details of Henry's descendants in Australia, myself and other family researchers have drawn almost a complete blank regarding the family in England, including whether or not he had any siblings. His father was probably named Henry also, and his mother may have been named Harriet, but with no details as to her maiden name.
I remember my father saying that at some stage in the family's history, there was a falling out and our branch changed the spelling to 'ALGER' from some other spelling. He suggested that the original spelling was 'ELGAR', but that may be incorrect.
I am hoping that a family history researcher of the name 'ALGUIRE' may have come across some information which may assist.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I am also happy to provide details in my possession to other researchers.
