I am the daughter of Klaus Walter Alkier who immigrated to the U.S. from Bavaria in 1953. His father was Walter Albert Alkier. My brother is Michael Albert Alkier, but probably not the same Michael you are looking for, as he was born in 1959 in Texas. We pronounce our last name "AL"- as in "Albert" -KIER as in "keer" (rhymes with beer), although I'm told we were Von Alkier then dropped the "Von", and before that were French, so really the correct pronunciation is "All-kee-ay", but we don't say it like that in America nor in Germany, not in our immediate family anyway. ALKIER is often mistakenly pronounced like ALKIRE by others who read the name, but the two names are not pronounced the same.
